Co-Visioning the Future of 0B7

The Warren-Sugarbush Airport (0B7) was established in the 1960’s by local residents, aimed to cater to the growing interest in gliding and small aircraft operations in the area.  With the construction of the Tower in 1967 and the paving of the runway in 1968, the airport became a hub for aviation enthusiasts in the area. Over time, 4 key organizations have shaped the airport’s identity and development:

  • Granite Intersection Inc (GI):  Established in 1973, Granite Intersection Inc was formed to purchase and preserve the Airport. GI oversees leasing arrangements to various tenants, including SSA, Ole’s Nordic Center and the T-Hanger Association.
  • Sugarbush Soaring Association (SSA):  Established in 1978 as a membership-based club to promote the sport of soaring.  Today, the airport is predominantly used by SSA for soaring, including instruction, scenic glider rides and youth camps.
  • Granite T-Hangar Condominium Association: There are 25 units located on the property, which is leased from GI.
  • Flight Experience for Youth (FEFY): FEFY was established as a 501c (3) organization in 2004 in response to a recognized need to give more young people the opportunity to experience the world of aviation.   FEFY financially supports SSA’s Line Crew program, provides Youth Soaring Camp scholarships and is developing STEM programs for local youth.

In response to the ever-changing nature of aviation and its effect on 0B7, a cross section of stakeholders from the above organizations have established a working group to firmly establish the Warren-Sugarbush Airport as a sustainable and thriving aviation entity.  The group’s objectives are:

  1. Align Stakeholder Groups: Build a shared mission and vision that unites all airport stakeholders in a cohesive direction.
  2. Generate Future-Focused Concepts: Develop creative solutions and options for the airport’s future as a valuable and viable airport hub.
  3. Lay the Foundation for a Master Plan: Establish a groundwork that demonstrates 0B7’s financial and regulatory viability, includes common vision, recommended governance structures, and sets long-term goals and milestones for success.
