Tow Pilot

Seasonal (Late-May through October), Part or Full-Time (flexible)

The Tow Pilot at Sugarbush Soaring is responsible for conducting safe, efficient tow operations, providing reliable support to both club and visiting pilots. The Tow Pilot reports directly to the Lead Tow Pilot (LTP) and the director of operations and follows established operating procedures to ensure smooth and professional tow services. This position requires close coordination with the LTP and other team members to maintain aircraft readiness and adherence
to safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Operate SSA towplanes in compliance with FAA regulations and SSA procedures,
    ensuring safe and efficient tows for both glider flights and training operations.
  • Maintain qualifications and proficiency in towplane operations, adhering to assigned
    flight schedules as provided by the LTP or Director of Operations (DO).
  • Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections, ensuring the towplanes remain airworthy
    and reporting any squawks or maintenance needs to the LTP or Director of Maintenance.
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and serviceability of the towplanes, including
    handling minor upkeep tasks as necessary.
  • Provide timely flight data, including flight times and tow numbers, to the office staff for
    accurate record-keeping.
  • Work with the LTP to ensure all maintenance issues are addressed, including performing
    basic maintenance duties such as replenishing oil and fluids.
  • Assist in maintaining safety and service standards for all tows, following standardized
    operating procedures set by the LTP.
  • Represent the SSA professionally, ensuring positive interactions with club members,
    visiting pilots, and the general public.
  • Support airport operations by assisting with various duties as needed, such as facilities
    upkeep or other tasks assigned by the LTP or Airport Manager (AM)

    Qualifications:
  •  Commercial Pilot certificate preferred, with qualifications in airplane single-engine land.
  • FAA class II medical certification, valid and current for the position.
  • Experience in glider towing operations is a plus but not required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety and professionalism in all aspects of the role.
  • Significant tailwheel experience.

    This is a flexible, part-time or full-time seasonal position with flight schedules determined by operational needs and may include weekend work.  Pay commesurate with experience and housing accommodations available based on candidate need.
