Flight Experience For Youth (FEFY) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to creating growth opportunities for young people through aviation experiences and education at Sugarbush Soaring in Warren, Vermont.

Thanks to generous donors, in 2022 and 2023 FEFY provided more than $24,000 in scholarships for Sugarbush Soaring's Youth Soaring Camps and in 2024 they anticipate awarding over $15,000.   The camps are week-long, immersive experiences that includes ten instructional flights, ground school, meals, supervised overnight camping on the airfield and plenty of other exciting activities. The scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition (a value of $3,600).

Open to youth ages 13-18, the scholarships were created to help realize FEFY's goal of increasing the diversity and inclusiveness of the sport of soaring and to make these experiences available to groups who have low participation rates in aviation.  No prior flight experience is necessary, and women and minority groups are encouraged to apply.

The application period runs from February 1st to March 15th, and more information including eligibility requirements and deadlines can be found on FEFY's website.

Financial assistance for additional flight training opportunities at Sugarbush Soaring in Warren, VT may be available as well. For more information, email

Other youth scholarship opportunities (outside of FEFY) exist as well. For example, the Soaring Society of America has a number of scholarships for youth of all skill levels... from the pre-solo beginner all the way up through experienced Junior pilots seeking advanced ratings and/or cross-country, wave, or ridge soaring experience. The Women Soaring Pilots Association (WSPA) also offers scholarships.
